Note that while each patient shown in Fig. 3 has 3/42 (10/140) acuity, there are significant differences in their contrast sensitivity functions, especially between patients MB and RK. Also note that while patient MB, with an overall higher contrast sensitivity function, did well on the reading task, patient RK did poorly.
