The pattern was made using structured wallpaper and the tiles were from a French antique market, making these pictures extra special. • Make a mold in three parts out of particleboard and joists from a home improvement store. • Measure and screw the joists together to create three equal sized squares. • Screw the joists to the particleboard. • Cut a piece of wallpaper with a structured pattern. • Put a piece of wallpaper in each mold with the pattern facing up. The wallpaper should go up over the edges so that they too become patterned.
The surface that is being covered needs to be clean and dry. The glue is painted onto the surface with an adhesive comb spreader. Place the mosaic, tiles, or shards in the pattern you want. It is a good idea to test the pattern out before gluing so you can see what it looks like and make sure the measurements work. A tile nipper can be useful to cut the mosaic bits to size. When the glue is dry, it is time to grout. Mix the grout according to the instructions on the packet and brush it over the tiles/mosaic with the grout spreader.
Mix the concrete according to the instructions on page 12. • Pour the concrete into the mold. • Press the reinforcement into the concrete so it is completely covered by the concrete. • Gently tap the mold against the ground a few times to get rid of any air bubbles, as this will give you a smooth surface and enhance the pattern. • Leave it to set for at least 24 hours. Make sure it’s on a flat surface and keep it out of the sun. • For the best results, water the concrete a few times while it’s drying.
